Coffee Roasting Plant in Ethiopia (2022)

Ethiopia grows some of the world's best-known coffees, and a growing number of Ethiopian companies want to roast and sell their own coffee instead of exporting only green beans. This customer runs cafés and sells roasted coffee locally, and needed a plant that takes green coffee all the way to a packed, ready-to-sell product.

Kafgar planned the roasting, grinding and quality-control equipment as one project, so the capacities match from the first day of production.

The roasting side combines two Kafgar drum roaster sizes. Two batch sizes in one plant give flexibility: short runs can go on the smaller roaster while the larger one handles the main production volume.

Sample roasting and cupping sit in the same facility as production. Each new lot of green coffee is test-roasted and cupped before it goes into a production batch, which matters in a coffee-growing country where every harvest is different.

Grinding capacity was sized to the roasting output, so roasted coffee can be ground and packed for the customer's cafés and local sales without a bottleneck at the grinders.

In 2026 another coffee business in Ethiopia equipped its quality-control lab with a Kafgar Sample Pro sample roaster and a coffee grinder. Kafgar has shipped roasters, grinders and cupping equipment to Ethiopia regularly since 2022.
